Lupe Fiasco and Sky Gellatly, which collectively comprise SNDCLSH, are back with another reworked offering, this time linking with DJ Kue to re-up on The Pointer Sisters' classic "Automatic." The original track was released in 1983, as the clear '80s sound remains evident even through the triple DJ remix. See below to stream as well as download. Swedish-based singer Eric Turner premieres his first video for his debut single Angels & Stars featuring Lupe Fiasco and Tinie Tempah. After making a guest appearance on Tinie’s Written in the Stars and Lupe’s Break the Chain, the singer and songwriter brings their styles together in this graphically-driven video. Eric Turner's debut album Disc-Overy is scheduled to be released mid-2012 on Capitol Records. Refer to the video above to see the visuals.

Being named an advocate for OTW by the Vans family, Lupe Fiasco also had the honor to grace the stage at the official launch party during Berlin Fashion Week on January 18, 2012. We witnessed the Chicago native turning a great live performance and documented in our exclusive photo recap. Enjoy!

We recently met up with Lupe Fiasco during Berlin Fashion Week for our sister site Hypebeast in order to talk about his involvement as an advocate for OTW Vans. Besides talking about his history with the brand and his design influences, the Chicago native also talked about SNDCLSH, his latest music project with his friend Sky Gellatly, and the status of Food & Liquor II.

Could you delve a little into SNDCLSH – your collaborative project with your friend Sky Gellatly?
Absolutely. I started DJing two years ago. I was invited by a company to come and DJ at some event. My first reaction was, “I don’t DJ.” I never had at that point. However, they insisted and wanted me to play some music. As I was getting my playlist together, I realized, this was actually dope. I caught the bug right away. It was less about scratching the turntables with my elbows but I realized that I had a good ear for music selection. It got to the point that I joined forces with my partner Sky, who has been DJing for 15 years and having residencies at different places. He’s obviously more of a real DJ than I am. So me and him did a gig together and we noticed the chemistry between us and liked it a lot. We formed SNDCLSH and started to do gigs in Las Vegas and different places. The decision to do our music was more like a natural process. We started with remixes, collaborations with different DJs and producers. This was cool but the desire to come up with our own music got so big that we actually landed in the recording studio and started to create original music which will land on our Don’t Drop The Flag EP which will be out this year. We are currently looking for the first official single. Don’t expect any hip-hop sounds on it. No hip-hop at all. It is not Lupe Fiasco. Just like my punk band Japanese Cartoon is not Lupe Fiasco. This is like club music, what I would like to listen to on the dancefloor. This project has definitely become a passion of mine and we decided to donate all the proceeds to the kids.

Regarding the sound of this project, what are the musical influences?
Yeah man, definitely. We call it SNDCLSH because it is influenced by so many different styles of music. So it’s not just progressive house, it’s not just dubstep, drum n’ bass. It’s all of those things combined. So it would be Daft Punk, all the way to Avicii, Bloody Beetroots, Diplo, Kavinsky, Nero just across the board. Back and forth. It is conceptualized by any song which is on my playlist. And this list is thousands of song. So definitely expect an eclectic blend of sounds on it.

What is the status of your next solo album?
Food & Liquor II is in the works. However, it’s a complicated process – dealing with the record company and all that so I can’t really open up on it right now. But I am definitely looking forward to it and can’t wait to offer something special from Lupe Fiasco. Be on the lookout.

Right after New Year's Eve we heard the first audio impression from Lupe Fiasco and Sky Gellatly's joint project SNDCLSH. For Life + Times, both gentlemen delved into this new project, its purpose and the importance of giving back. Read a few excerpts below and find the whole article here.

SKY: Above all, Lupe and I are friends. We both have always had a respect for creative culture and for doing what we can to motivate and support the next generation of creative minds. Being a role model in just words, is different than being a role model in words and action. As friends, about a year and a half ago, we discovered that we both had a passion for electronic music. Well, a serious addiction, actually. And then, like real friends, we just said, “Hey, let’s start DJing together.” And we just stuck to our promise as friends, in and out of Lupe touring, and me with several other jobs. It’s just been genuine and fun from the start.

LUPE FIASCO: After conceptualizing “The Soundclash,” literally two sides of sound or musical tastes coming together (read: Sky and I), we were dedicated to leveraging our project as a way to positively influence culture. We knew that we had to make our own music to add to the canon, and we wanted to stand for philanthropy in a big way. Go big or go home.

SKY: Over lunch one day, we both decided that we should create our own dance album, and also man up and donate ALL of the album profits as a way to raise money for kids. We would have appreciated it as kids. We would have been motivated as kids to be philanthropic if guys we looked up to showed us that it was cool and easy to do. So, we really were just like ‘why not’? Doing good shouldn’t be such a hard decision to make. It’s like telling the truth–it’s the most right thing to say always. Even if, sometimes, it’s not the easiest.

LUPE FIASCO: Ultimately, when you’ve decided to do something that is rooted in helping kids in need, being creative takes on a whole new gravity. So from day one in creating our EP, we’ve said that we’re making music for others: for others to dance to, for others to have fun with and play in their DJ sets, and for others to receive support from–through our donation of all of our album sales. The EP’s title, Don’t Drop The Flag, is a manifestation of our dedication to supporting the next generation of creative thinkers. The flag we wave, is one that we have to stand for, hold onto, and pass on in due time. And truthfully, if we aren’t laying a positive example for the next generation in a hyperbolic way, we really have no right to even flying a flag today at all. Kids today don’t need anymore hollow heros.

DJ Ruckus has decided to lace Lupe and Trey Songz's collaborative track "Out of My Head" with his contagious club feel. Upon letting loose the reworking roughly a day ago, you should probably expect this to be making its way to your favorite nightspot in the near future. We all want it, and it looks like we're going to get it. Just documented on Lupe's website, it has been confirmed that we will indeed receive a collaborative album from Lupe and Pharrell, as the post reads:

Lupe Fiasco's DJ project The SNDCLSH with friend and associate Sky Gellatly, has officially brought forth its first official tune in the shape of the remix of “Letting Go.” As his Friend of the People mixtape indicated earlier in 2011, do not expect too much hip-hop sounds on this one.

The SNDCLSH, the collaborative music duo of DJ Lupe Fiasco and DJ Sky Gellatly, have dropped their first official track, the collaborative remix of “Letting Go” with the DJ and producer wonder DJ Kue. The song is a glimpse into the SNDCLSH debut EP, “Don’t Drop The Flag”, an all electronic music album.

And in keeping with the philanthropic spirit of Lupe and Sky, they have pledged to donate ALL of the proceeds from their upcoming EP to kids in need. Yes, every single dollar. Be on the lookout for more SNDCLSH tracks in the coming weeks, and for an early 2012 album drop from the SNDCLSH.

As The LupeE.N.D. Blog points out, a more than eyebrow-raising clash of creative power has taken place recently. It appears that Lupe Fiasco stopped by at a recent studio session with Pharrell Williams and Tyler, the Creator. Unfortunately, there is no official word on whether this apparently spontaneous meeting will result in some music. Stay tuned.
