During his recent tour of Europe, A-Trak’s stop in London included an appearance at famed online DJ channel Boiler Room for a 40-minute broadcasted set. The multiple DMC Champion took a break from his usual foray into electronic dance music, and went back to his roots to play a scratch-heavy hip-hop set to remind us of how the Montreal native got to where he is today. Including tracks from Wu-Tang, A$AP Rocky, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes, Clipse and Waka Flocka Flame, A-Trak goes through the entire spectrum of hip-hop. Minimalist producer, Nicolas Jaar, has reinvigorated Leonard Cohen’s 1971 classic “Avalanche” to a new electronic frontier. The 22 year-old American-Chilean, who is still studying Comparative Literature at Brown University, recruits the vocal services of Sasha Spielberg (yes, Stephen’s daughter) for the Just Friends project. It’s not the first time Jaar has worked with Hollywood A-lister’s children, having made “With Just One Glance” alongside Scout Larue, the product of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.
