Kaytranada, Grimes, Carly Rae Jepsen & More Nominated for Renowned 2016 Polaris Music Prize

This is the shortlist.

The shortlist of nominees for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize has been revealed. Following last year's star-studded list of nominees, the committee behind this year's Polaris Music Prize have decided to eschew high-profile artists such as The Weeknd, Drake and Justin Bieber -- who were on the initial longlist -- for acclaimed musicians and acts like White Lung, Kaytranada, Jerry Lanza, Black Mountain, Grimes and more. Out of all the artists included on the final shortlist for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, Carly Rae Jepsen is probably the most well-known and the closest to a "household name." You can check out the shortlist for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize below. The annual Polaris Music Prize honors recent achievements by Canadian music artists. As Pitchfork notes, the winner of this year's Polaris Music Prize will be revealed September 19 at the Polaris Music Prize Gala, and will receive $50,000 in addition to the award.
