Early this month, "Thrift Shop" duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis made their musical comeback with the very personal Ed Sheeran collaboration "Growing Up." "Growing Up" was billed as a dedication to Macklemore's newborn daughter Sloane and came from the duo's drive to "put out good music, directly to the people that have been here since the beginning." With the month coming to a close, the popular duo are back with another new single in support of their reemergence, "Downtown." In direct contrast to the sentimentality and introspection of "Growing Up," "Downtown" is a funk-propelled groove that takes its inspirational cues from hip-hop's birth. Rap forefathers Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz and Melle Mel also contribute to the effort. "Downtown" will also serve as the song that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform at the MTV VMAs this Sunday.
