NBA Denies It Wanted The Toronto Raptors To Fire Drake

Drake's role as an ambassador for his city's team, the Toronto Raptors, has been subject to a lot of discussion lately. After he made a comment about getting superstar player Kevin Durant to join the Raptors, his team was fined $25,000 for an unauthorized "public recruiting pitch." The comment violated the league's anti-tampering rules, which state that a player can't be explicitly pursued by another team while he's still under contract. Some reports stated that the NBA offered to remove the fine if the Raptors relinquished Drake of his “global ambassador” title. According to AllHipHop, the NBA has now issued an statement, denying they asked for Drake to be removed from this position:

"At no point did we suggest his title be removed but we were clear that as long as he acted as a representative of the team, he is subject to the league’s rules."
