It's been two months since Kendrick Lamar shook the hip-hop world with his now infamous "Control" verse, name-dropping some of the most respected names in the contemporary rap game. Last night, the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards aired, and with it came a new round of its famed group cyphers. K. Dot's verse -- as part of Top Dawg Entertainment's set -- was arguably the most-anticipated element of this year's cyphers. An early teaser indicated that he was getting after none other than Drake, who previously played off the importance of Kendrick’s verse on “Control.” Now the full verse has arrived and it is likely to stir some controversy. Before ending his part by crowning himself "King Kendrick," the Compton rapper sure has given us plenty of memorable lines such as:
"Ain’t nothing been the same since they dropped 'Control'/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes,"
"Your shit never penetrates/ Pin the tail on the donkey, boy you been a fake."
"I got my thumb on hip-hop/ And my foot in the back of your ass,"
"I spilled blood on my apron cooking this up""Hold up, wait a minute/ Your career ain't shit unless you got some Kendrick in it."
"I'm the master that masturbated on your favorite emcee,".
Yeah, in case you haven't noticed, Kendrick established his dominance over the rest of the rap genre in the two-minute cypher. While none of the fierce lyrics were directly aimed at anyone, they sure leave plenty of room for interpretation. It will be interesting to see how the rap world (and beyond) will react to this. On that note, we want to know in our latest poll whether you co-sign Kendrick's BET Cypher 2013 verse or not. Submit and comment below.
