Drake Responds to J. Cole’s Autism Apology, Both Agree to Remove Offensive Lyric

Following J. Cole's heartfelt apology yesterday, Drake has taken it upon himself to address the offensive lyric Cole featured on his "Jodeci Freestyle" single. Taking to his Octobers Very Own blog, Drizzy shared the following:

J.Cole wrote a beautiful and moving apology to individuals and families affected by autism who were understandably hurt by a verse in "Jodeci Freestyle". I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song.

With both Cole and Drake agreeing to have the lyric removed from the single, it goes to show that both artists are owning up to the mistake outright, which a number of other hip-hop emcees tried to avoid.

It's just wack cuz the shit ain't genuine. They're just not trying to fuck their money up. Ain't no point trying to fake being considerate after the fact cuz if they really gave a shit they wouldn't have said it in the first place.

  • Really?

I thought rappers didnt give a fuck... Now they apologising for offensive lyrics. Because all the misogyny and thug culture is something that can be justified, but heaven forbid we offend disabled kids. These niggas are moist.

  • Autism Mom in IL

Speaking as the Mom of an AMAZING kid with Autism, this moves me. So few celebrities care enough to learn about our kids and right wrongs, that I assumed this would be the case with Jay Z and Drake.

You have no idea how much impact your words have on a child until you see it with your own eyes, and that impact is incrementally increased in a child with Autism. They ALL understand exactly what you say, they can feel how you feel abut them, and things that most people would brush off deeply hurt them.

My son is verbal, loves all kids of music, knows about his Autism, and wants others to understand him. The first time we heard this song, he started crying. He has been bullied so much by other kids, that this felt like he was being bullied by an artist who he looked up to. It hurt to watch my son hurting over a song.

So, for you fans who disagree with what Jay Z and Drake are doing, imagine how YOU would feel if your child had Autism or some other genetic disorder, and some celebrity did something that directly impacted you and yours. Put yourselves in our shoes.

Drake and Jay-Z , while your songs aren't always my first choice, you have gained a new fan today. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to those of us in the Autism Community.

  • Autism Mom in IL

How would YOU feel if you had a child with Autism who heard those lyrics and started crying?!? MY son went through that. Kids with Autism don't have the ability to brush things off that YOU do. Maybe you should educate yourself before you get all pissed off about things you know nothing about.

Not trying to f*uck their money up? Get real. This whole issue has given them so much free publicity I doubt they've lost anything. How many times you think this song has been downloaded since this whole thing started? Correcting the situation is only going to generate more awareness (of the song and of people with special needs) therefore generating more revenue for them. And all without spending one red cent. I'm glad they're correcting this. But I won't change my opinion of them until I can witness other selfless behavior from them, over time. That, I think, will say a lot about them.

  • eh

    You mean J. Cole? : /

  • lord quas

he is just a jew, he knows how da biz rules !

  • stop crying

Guys, its time to face it.. Autism CAN be funny sometimes. It's 2013 time to stop being ignorant.

  • andrew scott

    .............dude fuck off

  • Nilshan The Retard

Yo take that whale out your ass & sit down.

  • Andrew Dalton

If J. Cole has to start writing apology letters for lyrics, Mashall Mathers needs to make an apology letter template in his word processor.

Rap has rules, now? Is this part of Jay Z's "New Rules" program?
