Lupe Fiasco Removed from Stage After Anti-Barack Obama Comments
By Petar Kujundzic / News / January 21, 2013 / 8088 Views

As we know, music and politics don't go always hand in hand. The latest example just arrived tonight when Lupe Fiasco made some controversial comments about President Barack Obama during his performance at Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C. honoring Obama's reelection. The Chicago rapper performed "Words I Never Said," a single from his third LP Lasers, and stated that he did not vote for Obama in November. Consequently, Lupe was asked to leave the stage. Washington journalist Josh Rogin documented the events on his Twitter as you can see below. Expect more details to arrive real soon.

UPDATE: A video of Lupe's performance (plus removal) has now found its way to the web. Watch it below.

from kick push to getting kicked off stage...

  • Kanye East

First the whole Tribe fiasco (pun) and now this. Hope he falls off harder than Chuck Hamilton. All this self-obsessed messianic bullshit is getting old.

  • MRGABE

    Lupe successfully created a Fiasco.

  • chav

who was the guy that decided this was a good idea in the first place?

  • http://Hertje.com Hert Zollner

Fiasco is what you want. Fiasco is what you get.

  • BrwnB3ar

Because this doesn't look like a desperate plea for attention or anything. I'm really disappointed with one of my favorite artists first for pulling some ho shit like this and for leaving the stage. That's some First Amendment shit even if the guy was clowning, he can say what he wants. Lupe has always lacked consistency

  • MRGABE

    kicked/pushed off stage.

So much for freedom of speech...US double standards

Gotta agree with you here. After F&L1, Lupe quickly became one of my favourites.
Ive tried to hold on since then, but the dude is making it hard to.

Gonna put out 3 albums or not? Gonna be finished with music or not? Gonna kill yourself or not?

I think he's gotta check himself. In life, you've got your Food and Liquor. Too much liquor with Lupe lately. Get outta Atlantic and start writing proper tunes.

  • Fogo De Chao

Freedom of speech isn't being really being tested in this situation. He was asked to leave not persecuted. Maybe not the best example but if you invited your buddy to perform for your mom's birthday and he starts singing Anon's mom is a hoe ass hoe wouldn't you ask him to leave? Or just be cool with it cause it's "freedom of speech". Grow up buddy.

  • obi-bashtin

eh lupe didn't do anything wrong tho

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000129493274 Greg Harris

They're all in the illuminati huh?

  • Anon

Well Mr Fogo, it is...its pretty simple really

First, i wouldn't invite a friend to come preform unless im sure hes going to be preforming for her and not speaking against her, but if my mom is a hoe and i invite a person who i know that he knows shes a hoe and he talks about it then thats not really his problem, its either mine or my moms.

Secondly, this isnt a bday party its a performance by an international artist that speaks whats on his mind, and the perspective of half of the 7 billion people that live on this planet. The article says got "thrown off stage" by "security" not asked to leave.

So i stand clear by telling you to grow up and that you should learn about world news and politics before you get to your keyboard.

  • DiizNutz

no, it's more like: economy is the end game, its purpose is the rich getting richer and the rich lobbies the government, so whoever is in charge, they're just a puppet. ditch the illuminati conspiracy and replace that with billionaire capitalists and a state running on industrialism-OS and you get a powerless shackled citizen, the same hierarchical system that we all know and love

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000129493274 Greg Harris

I agree with you in that there are a small number of very wealthy powerful people who have control in media and government to a certain extent. I do not, however, think it's as much absolute power as you believe, and would say it's more of a strong influence on elected officials rather than a puppet act.

  • 10StepsAhead

Freedom of fucking speech, shoulda told them to fuck off.

  • MyMojoSoDope

The article actually never said he was thrown off stage. A journalist tweeted he was thrown off stage. This LA Times article clearly states he was never "thrown off stage". Hardly a violation of his rights, rather the lights were dimmed on his stage and he left the stage. Check the facts before you attack our country and it's values.

He just keeps slipping. Dude fell off big time.

One SmartDumb MF'er....... I don't know what else to say....

  • Descartes

Why assume there is something wrong with them man when he is professes his beliefs. What is hip-hop... one's artistic expression of the world he sees. It doesn't take Ms Cleo to know what was going to happen. The fault lies with the person who booked him; thinking all black man would side with Obama. If you ever listen to Lupe, he states that Obama is not the problem but only a piece of the problem.

  • p

Which is why you're in a dead end street working for somebody else's dream, right?

  • DiizNutz

No-one has the power, we're shoe-wearing bacterias that have barely started to write this planet's history, but the state-government system that has been in place for 6000 years simply makes a social hierarchy. We moved from kings to dukes to parliaments. But it's still hierarchical. And the gap between the few on the top and the many on the bottom is enormous, we're getting more and more connected and representative legislation will eventually turn into a self-organizing political system that absolutely everyone will partake in, then the ruling agent will be pure human will, but until then, it's not, the ruling agent is money, and it's the measure of power too, and me and you, with our debts and salaries don't compare to the titanic corporates so yes we have freedoms and rights, but they get to pull the big stunts :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000129493274 Greg Harris

Where'd you get that idea? I'm in college working toward my dream, while our government is far from perfect, I feel I'm on the right track and there is no other better place in the world to persue my dream, the American dream. Don't like the government? Leave, no one is keeping you here. Otherwise don't whine. If you don't have a solution to a problem, find one instead of laying down discussing it on a music blog.

  • lupe fiasco

dis nigga made me angry, AND IT HURTS ME SOUL

  • http://twitter.com/AskGeebz Ammar H

    thank you.

  • Jazz

    Lupe didn't vote, period.

  • Long Time Lupe Fan

Honestly, he's alienating his fan base and his last album (which I bought to support) was good, not great (The Cool, F&L1 etc were better imo). I'm expressing my free speech too by saying it's getting old and I'd rather hear a new classic album with creative stances on issues that hit me emotionally, rather than have him try to change or influence my political views outright.

And if your going that route, rather than draw attention to flaws and criticize, point us to solutions instead. Point us to anti war non-profits you support, state how you feel politically in interviews or a book rather than bash us over the head with your views at shows.

TLDR, Express your views artistically in the music, express constructive solutions instead of criticism and don't rant at live shows possibly turning off fans who may not agree with you.
