Childish Gambino On ‘Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake’ (Preview)
By Richard Brooks / News / January 25, 2013 / 4734 Views

Childish Gambino is no stranger to lending his vocal talents to the Cartoon Network – last November Tyler, the Creator, MC Lyte and himself all lent their rapping skills to an episode of The Regular Show, and now it looks like Gambino will be returning to animated form during an upcoming episode of Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake. Co-starring alongside comedian Neil Patrick Harris, Gambino will play the role of Marshall Lee, the musical male counterpart to fan favorite Marceline the Vampire Queen in the upcoming episode titled, "Bad Little Boy." Up top you can view a sneak peek clip of the episode showing Gambino's character performing a musical number and then continuing to speak in rhyme. The episode is set to premiere on Monday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m., so be sure to save the date.

Anyone think it's weird they didn't animate him as a black guy, just a tanned hipster guy.

killing it... even as a white vampire guy

he's not playing himself, the character is a vampire

fionna and cake mirrors the characters finn and jake. Childish's Gambino's character mirrors Marceline a white vampire so it would be weird if they made him black.

Y'all trippin', who cares what race he is in the show, he's like the reverse of one of the main characters so that'll mean he'll be there a lot. Besides, even Gambino himself thinks he's a whitewashed black dude, that's why he knows black And White pop culture so much.

  • LilDice

I was with you until "Even Gambino thinks he's whitewashed" smh

  • Perhaps

i wouldn't describe it as "weird". I think they just wanted to be consistent with the show's characters. Although, it shouldn't matter what race he is.

  • Perhaps

i strongly agree, what is whitewashed anyways?? what tf is wrong with you dude. You are ensuating that you believe any specific American culture is based on race. We are all experiencing the world around us in many ways. One is not restricted of specific culture interests and culture by the color of his skin.
