G.O.O.D. Music’s ‘Cruel Summer’ Debuts at Number 2

Now that G.O.O.D. Music's compilation album Cruel Summer has been available for seven days, the album's first week sales numbers are officially in and Kanye West's project managed to land in at the No. 2 spot, selling around 216k albums. Falling behind Pink's The Truth About Love, which moved 281k units last week, Cruel Summer compared to other notable hip-hop compilation albums' first week sales (Maybach Music Group sold 98,000 units of Self-Made Vol. 2; Young Money sold 142,000 units of We Are Young Money) did exceptionally well, nearly doubling the sales of Young Money's 2009 effort We Are Young Money. With Kanye West's solo album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy selling roughly 496,000 copies in its first week and Kanye and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne moving 436,079 copies, it's hard to tell as to what the exact reason for the sales being so low for Ye's compilation effort. A number of fans voiced their thoughts on the disappointment over the number tracks and forgotten features, and coupled with the premature leak of the album, that could have a lot to do with it falling short of what many may have expected the album to do. None the less, the album did boast excellent numbers in the eyes of most, so let us know what you think down below.

Quality > Sales. Its not about the money its about sending a message.

  • Myles Barksdale

And did they not send a message? They rose the bar for Hip Hop compilation albums. What other Hip Hop compilation albums compare to Cruel Summer? And what label do you think could do better?

  • dude.

The album isn't all garbage, but overhyped for sure. And remember it's not a Kanye West album, which should keep you feeling hopeful for his next project.

i know it's hard for you to speak on your own opinions because society tells you what to think and you listen wholeheartedly, BUT if you do listen (more than once) to the album I'm sure you'd actually enjoy it...
