Frank Ocean – Bad Religion (Live on Jimmy Fallon)

The Frank Ocean marathon continues. To coincide with the release of Channel Orange, Frank made his first live television performance tonight on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon performing his single "Bad Religion." Similar to when Tyler, the Creator made his appearance on Fallon, the performance serves as a huge stepping stone for Ocean. Backed by The Roots band and string orchestra, you check out the performance up above. Be sure to grab Channel Orange now, a week before physical copies release, by visiting iTunes here. Enjoy!

This is flat out amazing, one of the best artists to have come out recently. He will go down along side of icons for what he has done already and it's just beginning. Vancouver, July 14th Commodore Ballroom, can't wait.

Here’s the album stream, the purchase link, the digital booklet and the download link, plus a review of the best album of this year. If you don’t buy, you’re either doing very important things with your money, but just don’t go to burger king or KFC this month and buy this instead.

Ok, I thought it said him, but it could've just as easily sounded like "em" to someone. You really don't need to jump to conclusions so easily.

Wasn't impressed with this performance at all.
(Go ahead press that dislike button, what doesn't kill me makes me stranger.)

when he says "him" he's talking about god. Its a bad religion because the god doesnt love him he just wants people to beg him.

As per "Bad Religion", I concur this is an unquestionable swipe at the Islamic faith done with an intriguing and inviting expression of art. I didn't understand at first how folks were inserting his openly gay lifestyle because I thought that would diminished or take away from the debate because it is not considered politically appropriate to do so. However, upon further reflection and google I see this character has successfully used his celebrity to announce to the world that he was in a "same sex" relationship to promote tolerance within the Hip Hop world for his agenda. I found it a bit ironic that someone would want to garner sympathy and respect for their lifestyle while bashing another and ultimately promoting hate bigotry and intolerance)...#totalhypocrite

I agree with you, I'm like why Islam, and not Christianity, is he Muslim or something..

  • Steve

I think the "bad religion" he's reffering to is unrequited love..."its a bad religion to be in love with someone who never loved you"... It cant be about the God I serve because my God is LOVE... "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

that flannel he's rocking is trill. where can i get one?

  • CPJ

    oh boy. badass stranger

At first I thought so too but you are both mistaken. This is the response from the taxi cab driver as Frank is divulging his troubles. It is also an indirect reference to the taxi cab driver's nationality (cab much?). A Christian driver may have said "
"God is Great.. Ima pray for you". The driver is moved to say this soley because Frank tells him that demons are chasing him.

Now follow me here because this is a part is a bit complex: Frank is the one with with Bad Religion because his love for this other guy is basically destroying him internally. Also, its not the homosexuality that makes his love a Bad Religion; its the fact that its unrequited. The lyrics blatantly state this almost word for word.
Maybe I'm a nerd... but I really appreciate the literary complexity of the lyrics. Gets those brain cells moving :)
    And now you know! :)
