Yesterday we received word that the popular Coachella Festival may have to relocate if a proposed admissions tax was passed by the city of Indio, California. The proposed taxing would have increased ticket prices by 5 to 10 percent for any live events hosting more than 2,500 people. Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett stated that he would take the festival elsewhere if the tax ballet were to go through, and Indio city councilman Sam Torres didn't take the threat lightly as he issued the following statement earlier in a press release:
I cannot in good conscience allow this to happen no matter how dire the city’s circumstance. My sincere hope is that we can now move past this episode and I personally look forward to working to enhance relationships.
So for now, Coachella 2014 is still on for those who are looking ahead at their calendars. We'll be sure to keep you updated as anymore news is released.
