Lecrae featuring No Malice – Darkest Hour
By Jonathan Sawyer / Tracks / May 11, 2012 / 1324 Views

Evidently religious rapper Lecrae has been gaining favor from his secular peers as the Atlanta artist recently released his latest project, Church Clothes, hosted by Don Cannon. The mixtape highlights production from heavyweights Boi-1da and 9th Wonder, while we have probably the most anticipated offering on hand. Presented is No Malice's first released verse since his name change and his embarking on a more spiritual journey. You can check the tag-team effort below, and head here to download Lecrae's latest tape. Let us know what you think of the Christian rapper as well as No Malice's return.

I wish we could get a socially conscious rapper that wasn't religious for a change...decent enough track though, good to hear No Malice, looking forward to an eventual Clipse reunion.

Have you just started coming on this site, Hypetrak always post socially concious artist, it's actually about time we got a religious artist on it's site. This is a first and a great step forward, Hypetrak I salute you, you now have everyone's attention. Everyone.

I'm not just talking about Hypetrak, I'm talking about Hip-Hop, and I can't think of a single rapper that doesn't reference their faith in some way. I know being a self-proclaimed Christian rapper is different, because it's essentially being committed to preaching in rhyme, I just think there's room for someone who isn't religious to make politically motivated rap records.

Wait wait wait Did I die when proclaiming religion became cool in rap culture? Come on kid other than Talib Kweli and Mos Def (which are probably some of the most social conscious rappers in the game) Who also happen to be muslim, no one really points out faith in their songs. Plus, Rap is about the artists life, if a large part of their life is based on faith why would they try to rap about things that they don't really know about. Personally I would take this over, "Bitches and hoes" any day.

I'm not complaining about this existing, it just provoked thought, and I stand by the thought, it's just my personal feeling, it's something I'd like to hear. And even those bitches and hoes records mention Jesus pieces and praying and what not, religion is pretty pervasive.

Of all rappers to turn lame, I did NOT expect it of Malice.  Bummer. Trading in the triple-beam?  psh
