Pitbull says music business is “90 percent business, 10 percent talent”
By Jonathan Sawyer / News / April 26, 2012 / 2428 Views

Some people believe in the popular adage that with most things in life it's who you know. Well, when it comes to the music business, hit-maker Pitbull says that it's "90 percent business, 10 percent talent." The Miami artist today revealed his opinion during a Q&A at the Billboard Latin Music Conference, where he then went on to say, "There's no genius to what I do. I keep it simple, stupid -- K.I.S.S." Much of what molded this conviction was his tribulations between himself and his previous record label. To check out the sit-down in its entirety, head on over to Billboard. Do you feel there is any truth to what Pitbull is saying?

At least he's aware of the business model he's been exploiting.

pitbull has no talent so what he said makes alotta sense.

  • kazin

Yeah, for Pop music. No, for Rock, Rap and everything else. He's ignorant

  • Mr.Ashley

basically what he means is : I don't give a fuck about music , but that check is nice tho ....

  • ismaelhe

Co-sign Brachmann's statement above lol.  BUT, that model is archaic.  It's exactly how the major labels want you to think.  If you want true longevity, you've got to be authentic and talented.  With this being the internet age, frauds are getting thrown in the backburner by the second.

  • meh

    for him, yes.

  • VANILLA

Those are the realist lyrics he's ever had

  • Fresh2deths

  • vadercon

Yeah he's successful but whatever. I'm into music for the good shit, not the david guetta remix bullshit that sellouts like pitbull are always on. Fuck that.

Its real talk, everyone sayin that this just applies to him, but look at how many of the dopest artist never get a chance to shine. Yea we have our Jay Electronica's, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamrs here and there but thats one in a million. Look at all the other garbage out there thats getin play. So what pitbull said is real talk

And I ain't sayin that people should continue making garbage music for money, we need more artist out there with as much business sense as they got talent

  • Piersos

I guess that true coming from him. But saying he has 10% talent is a little bit of an overestimation of himself. He's probably rocking a solid 2.

To Quote Rene from Calle 13: Ni siquiera los Beatles tenian cuatro canciones, sonando al mismo tiempo en la radio estaciones, Esto lo puede ver hasta un bizco, tu vendes porque to compras tus propios discos.

  • Goodfella419

Translation: Not even the Beatles had 4 songs playing at the same time on the radio stations. Even a blind person could see this, you sell because you buy your own records.

  • BLVCK golfwang

Adele is the top selling artists right now over him and Rihanna and she has talent, esperanza spalding and bon iver are winning grammys not pitbull. So idk wtf they're talking about

That's cool, 90% of his lyrics are "Mr. 305," "Mr. Worldwide," and Spanish gibberish.

  • Guest

u ignorant fucks. he mean that talent alone wont get you to the top without lawyers, managers, record executives, marketing, publishing, etc

  • Kristi

I think you are all misinterpreting what he's saying....talent gets nowhere without strong business acumen.

  • Mr Suede

All his songs are driven by the feature artist who sing the hook and he has nursery rhymes every time.... But some how this nigga gets to do the NBA ALLSTAR GAME... this nigga suck dick somewhere.... GOOOOD!!! lol

  • realshit

It's not even like the nigga is out there saying he's the hardest rapper of all time. He knows he makes pop music for people to dance to, not shit for hip hop heads to vibe out to. The nigga knows what he's doing and is making his money so stop hating on him for making money you'll never see in your life.
