KiD CuDi explains WZRD name and why he doesn’t do mixtapes
By John Ifejika / Interviews / March 29, 2012 / 7036 Views

In a recent radio discussion, KiD CuDi explained the meaning behind the name WZRD, relating it to a Black Sabbath-themed wizard who spreads cheer and joy to everyone around him, which in this case, CuDi is spreading good music to all his fans to make them happy. The Rager also went on to talk about why he doesn't do mixtapes, stating that artists lower their standards when they make them. Press play above to listen to snippets of the interview, as well as his favorite curse word.

nah mixtapes are as good as you make em... this nigga just dont have any creative ambition beyond making money

  • Theodore1992

that's his opinion dude, you're crazy for saying that Cudi's not creative. This dude is always original.

Kid Cudi, Great Singles, Shitty Albums

  • Mr Suede

I agree... Some of his best music came off mixtapes and his albums could have been better.... Every J.Cole mixtapes was just as good as his 1st. Official album... So Mr. Rager don't say "every artist"...just say "I go in the studio half ass on mixtapes cause I'm not making any money off it"... REAL TALK, NIGGAS LOOKING FOR THAT "MIXTAPE KID CUDI"... cause your new album shit is like B- / C+.... Just sayn

  • Real Dude

man Kid Cudi is mediocre. real shit. and this nigga doesn't make mixtapes cause he's not a really great rapper and doesn't have the creative potential to be truly prolific, I feel like. And this whole wzrd business and trying to be a "rawker" is him just trying to be artsy..

  • chaosman33

You need free mixtapes so that have fans have incentive to buy your album when they get a taste of what you got. Cudi hasn't made a decent album in years anyway

I don't think A Kid Named Cudi was really a lower standard. Probably his best project besides maybe MoTM.

  • Mr. Suede

THANK YOU..... Cudi is still around because people(Me) hope to get a album that his music on past mixtapes made people feel...this nigga played out like that RELAXED HAIR STYLE

cudi needs to quit with all the bs and get back to where he came from RAP, im tired of all this sad depressing shit he been doin... he got in the game doin what he loved and then just flipped and did a 180 into another genre of music and now just hates on rap... i hope he aint on the good music album!

  • fano

Fuck is Cudi talking about? Rap Hard and A Kid Named Cudi got some of his best records, and he's out of his goddamn mind if he says other rappers lower their standards. In 2011 nearly all the best records were mixtapes and not full albums (exceptions: the throne, section 80, and a few others). Like he's actually gonna say to Spitta and Action Bronson's faces that their mixtapes are no good. Garbage, he's making excuses for his own weak shit. Cudi is slowly fading into irrelevance, in my opinion.

  • Bluthstein

    WZRD creating magic with words......wammmm!

  • Jarrett Jack

how many mixtapes did Michael Jackson put out?

  • goodtimes

the way he voices his thoughts makes his words seem offensive. homie is just trying to progress as a artist.

  • http://twitter.com/RejectFvlseIcon Alex Tenney

exactly, idk why everybodys hating on cudi. Besides wzrd, all his albums/mixtapes are dope as fuck.

  • Solsupreme

Thats a dumb question, especially since mixtapes r a HipHop thing. Fall back and re-think that son

  • http://www.facebook.com/aaronjmelton Aaron Melton

Haha, don't make a mixtape, make a "free album".

  • David

Naw he just got brand new. Did everyone forget about Dat Kid From Cleveland and A Kid Named Cudi? Mixtapes put him on the map. And his conclusion that mixtapes produce bad music is bullshit. Whatever he enjoys contrariness

  • kevin3010

I don't know man , ever since he "stop doing drugs" , had a child & started "How To Make it In America" his music has been dry & shitty + is it me or has his attitude change dude seems so full of himself now ...

  • Tommymiller

new cudi is not good i cant be the only one thinking this... really compare his first real album to the 2 albums after it, he has not progressed as and artist. keep in mind he has became an incredible person and has matured so much, i would love to chill with cudi but when it comes to the art of music he has lost his touch thats just how i feel about it

  • JonJay

It's not you.. I feel the same way.

  • 3Kings – KLP Repcode

Get high as fuck, and then listen to Cudder's new shit. That's when it takes off.

  • http://twitter.com/Twiltman Tristan R Wiltman

You're only as good as your latest body of work.
If CuDi would stop making shitty music people would stop hating. If he retired after MOTM2 he'd still have a loyal fan base.

  • @thakingsenglish

Man on the Moon was one of the best albums in hip hop.  Go listen to the radio and beat off to a chris brown song.

    ahahahaha

  • emperorcrazyface

This might be the stupidest statement I have ever read.

  • http://twitter.com/iLikeGirlsDaily i Like Girls Daily

He fell off. Look at the likes on that first comment - people agree.

  • Jarrett Jack

is hip hop only a 'black' thing too?

Ive heard this term " this album is for the fans" from my favorite artists recently b4 they released they new album.... and each and every person who has said that they album has been mediocre at best because they didn't do it for the fans...they didn't do it for the music...they did it for the record label......You are on this list Kid formally named Cudi....

Cudi when i met you in 2008 when "A kid named Cudi" dropped it changed my life.... I was blasting that for months..... MOTM drops and its Great.... it made me feel like my mind had a voice..... MOTM2 drops and i start feeling a lil distant cus u was in ur "COLA" phase..... now u get clean and drop WZRD....I bought cus I'm a fan....but i barely listened to it.... 2 really good tracks, maybe 3......B4 you ever talked about WZRD you said there would be a mix tape called "A man named Scott" fast forward to now and its like "fuck a mixtape" but like Mr Suede said.....its cus u not getting the money..... Fuck money. do your craft that got you a deal.... HUSTLE HARD and make beautiful music.....Im still have faith in you because Lupe pulled that same move a lil while back and said no mix tapes ever again.... then after his album "for the fans" he drops the REAL album for the fans which was a mix tape "Friend of the people"......... we still here bro...

  • NH

He keeps referring to WE, so maybe he's just saying like him and dot don't do mixtapes. But at the same time I don't understand how he could say that, your music is going to turn out as good as you want it too, whether its and album or a mixtape, he needs to just be real and say I want fucking money bro. Like before WZRD he was making the mixtape A kid named scott, but you know what that was after his tour so he must of been feeling nice. You know he just need to realize that he can't be selfish with his music because its not just for him anymore its for his fans now too, he talks about the make great music that spreads cheer to their fans -_- nigga please. I love him still though.

  • D Dub

cudi should make mixtapes because every artist has amazing songs that are not approved by their label so a mixtape is a way to give those good songs to the fans that cannot be put on the album.

  • Suckit

    Truth. MOTM was primo.

  • http://twitter.com/ChazCuDi_801 Chaz Gumm

I agree with CuDi! Average people aren't gonna hear Mixtapes they listen to whats on the shitty ass radio, Sad but true. CuDi wants some recognition, he's not gonna go all out on a mixtape and have it not get recognized. He wants to put his heart and soul into his CD's like he has been doing, and be Recognized. Right now he is trying something different, stop the hate.
