A$AP Rocky talks homophobia in hip-hop

In case you haven't noticed by now, A$AP Rocky is out to change the game. Apparently, this does not only imply a switch in music but also when it comes to the expansion of tolerance. On this note, the self-proclaimed "pretty mthrfckr" from Harlem sat down with Spinner to discuss the touchy subject of homophobia and questions some of the macho standards of conventional hip-hop.

"I don't give a f--- about your business. Man, if you're gay we can be friends. If you're straight, we can be friends...I really don't give a fuck and I don't think anyone should care about what another man's preference is...As long as you're a great person and, y'know, you don't bother me and make me uncomfortable, then let's be friends, dude.

[Hip-hop] needs to stop being so close-minded because that will just cause the genre to fail. Look at pop. Pop doesn't discriminate against people. Look at Lady Gaga, y'know what I mean? Who the fuck makes the rules for hip-hop? Who the fuck dictates who's cool and who's not?"

    It is a choice. Having sexuality is something learned, like playing basketball or jogging that's why they say sexuallyactive. Birds that fly, a persons race, they are born that way. Being black is not a act it's who you are, something you dont have a choice in. Having sex is a act something you do have a choice in, something you learn to do.

     being attracted to pussy is not a choice. just like being attracted to dick is not a choice. so being hetero or homo is not a choice. sexual acts has nothing to do with being born gay or straight. i saw it on discovery channel.

    Could you claify your statement and what u saw on the discovery channel?Because a lot of boys as little kids didn't apprieciate girls example. Ewwww cooties etc. But soon they learn to be sexually attracted to women. They learned sexual attraction, but one creates life the other doesnt

    If you really think about it people are scared of homosexuals. just like a lot of people are scared of blacks, and anything else our society sees as deviating form the social norm. Its not the type of scared that you think of when you're watching a throwback Freddy Kruger but fear of what may happen if you get too close to or if you're touched or some other ignorance.The type of fear that comes with uncertainty an lack of knowledge. Honestly, Lil' B was the closest we'll get to a rapper coming out and saying they're gay, but if you were jigging to their music before- what does their personal sex acts have to do with the fact they make good music?  Im a Christian too so youll never catch me shooting down your evangelistic comments, but you went way left with that one. A$AP has the right idea about how we're ever gonna try and come out of these crazy times we live in, you gotta treat people as people and respecting their autonomy even if you don't agree with it. A big problem with Christianity is that a lot of us try and do God's job for him when we cant even handle the jobs he gave us to do.

    scientists found out it was genetic. not learned. im sure those little boys didnt want other little boys in the opposite way they wanted to repel girls so all that is pretty irrelevant. and the insinuation of one sexual orientation being able to create life is better than the other makes like total sense because what the world definitely needs right now is a much bigger population than what it already has.

    It is a preference because people prefer to date one race instead of another. That is not implying that it is a choice but rather it is proving that there is a difference in tastes.

    It IS a fear of homosexuality... Specifically the fear that being exposed to it may somehow infect you as if it spreads like a disease. Truth is though homophobia should mean fear of oneself, more specifically a fear of what may be lurking within oneself. And not intended to offend you but your beliefs aren't in line with everyone so don't attempt to pass it off as fact.
