Simon Cowell is never one to rest on his pile of 'innovative' concepts for television shows, and it’s open to interpretation as to whether his next idea is a good idea or not. As he announces that he will be launching a new talent show solely for DJs.

With this sure to cause controversy within the DJing world, the fast-track route to fame and fortune model now seems to have crossed over into unchartered waters, but we're yet to hear as to whether the show will be limited to a certain genre, or how DJs will be rated. Cowell describes DJs as “the new rockstars” and that the TV will encapsulate the rise of “DJ phenomena.”

Music Week reports that the as-yet untitled show will operate in a similar manner to previous talent shows such as American Idol and X-Factor with a mass auditioning phase followed by finalists vying for a final prize.

Cowell has brought in production house Overbrook, owned by Will Smith and his Wife Jada, alongside his own company SyCo.

As far as DJ reaction is concerned, Deadmau5 took to his Facebook page yesterday to vent his feelings in great detail and, he actually doesn’t think it’s such a bad idea. Head over to Facebook to see his post in full but a couple of his main points are detailed below.

Well, say we took on and embraced an idea such as a DJ talent show (which would no doubt become a smash hit) and used this as a conduit to see / hear / experience new things? Give the underdogs a shot, see what happens... and EVEN IF no massive worldwide careers busted out of it... well shit, sure would be entertaining to watch wouldnt it?

All i hope is that we can all tune into a show like this, laugh at the failures, and recognize and embrace originality / creativity / showmanship and passion. and for the purists and self proclaimed elitists out there, feel free to keep your noses in the air while were all VERY much pressured to compete or collaborate with all the new talent that will arrive from the bowlful of hype the EDM "scene" will receieve.

As always, we'd like to know your thoughts – is Simon Cowell right to jump on the bandwagon? Will the show be a success? Leave a comment below.

What do Dj's do again ? oh ya ... play songs they didn't make .... my Ipod does that too ....exception of Dj producers ....

Your stupid. DJ's make are people like David Guetta, and, of course, Deadmau5. They make music with no lyrics. Until they have someone sing in them.

I probably wouldn't watch it but anything Simon touches seems to turn into gold so I wouldn't bet against him. His bank account proves this to be correct.

lol yeah a DJ is Disc Jockey who plays selected tracks for an audience. as technology gets better so too do DJs - example- DJs traditionally use decks to spin and scratch beats but with the availability of samplers their job becomes more intricate and interesting. Hate to be a snob but it's all still fairly talentless.

Simon Cowell capitalises on delusion and stupidity.

Anybody can put a CD and hit play, but how far can you take it? A lot of people can "Dj" but not a lot of people can take it to the next level. I'm sure this show will focus a lot on a big scale productions.

Have you ever been to a party with an iPod playlist or someone just pressing skip on CD? Have you also been to a party with a good DJ? If so, then you should already know they are not comparable.
