Hypetrak’s Top 20 Songs of 2011
by Petar Kujundzic / News / December 28, 2011 / 20178 Views

We have to admit, the choice for this year's top song has been an easy one. There has been hardly a tune in recent years that evoked such intense reactions from the people like The Throne's ubiquitous "Ni**as in Paris." With no official video in tow, the tune has managed to be on replay for ten times in front of a live audience. While this already speaks for itself, the song has not only been synonymous with the massive success that Jay-Z and Kanye West have experienced with their Watch the Throne project, but has also developed into a cultural phenomenon with certain lines becoming trending topics on social media, quoted on TV and print magazines and whatnot. Hence, we had to give it to The Throne. As for the rest for the list, feel free to agree or disagree and to discuss in the comment section below.

1.) The Throne - Ni**as in Paris
2.) Bon Iver - Holocene
3.) Kendrick Lamar - HiiiPower
4.) Frank Ocean – Swim Good
5.) Drake - Over My Dead Body
6.) SBTRKT featuring Little Dragon – Wildfire
7.) Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx – I’ll Take Care Of U
8.) The Weeknd - High For This
9.) Tyler, the Creator - Yonkers
10.) M83 – Midnight City
11.) Jai Paul - BTSTU (Edit)
12.) Common - Blue Sky
13.) Avicii - Levels
14.) Azealia Banks - 212
15.) Shabazz Palaces - Swerve... the reeping of all that is worthwhile (Noir not withstanding)
16.) A$AP Rocky - Peso
17.) Childish Gambino - L.E.S.
18.) Adele - Someone Like You
19.) Jamie xx - Far Nearer
20.) Cults - Abducted

Its just funny reading this list seeing Holocene, Abducted, Midnight City, and Levels on here with the rest of the tracks. Confusing to me on the overall direction of what hypetrak is striving to go to.

LES is so legit. When people talk about Camp, I feel as though no one brings up LES but that's the coldest joint on there.

  • leeroy

helll no. that album straight garbage and i used to like j cole. busted his nut on his mixtapes and his album sucked asshole.

  • .:DrEaMwAlKeR:.

....you can't blame one artist for another's lack of exposure...

  • Isaac Kazin

I agree... but then again the entire album is legit. Fire Fly is one of my favs.

  • Mohammed

No you wrong for that. Hella wrong for saying that. Songs like Lost Ones which should considered a Top 10 song of the year. Breakdown(My fav on the album), Sideline Story, Dollar & Dream 3, Rise and Shine, Nobody's Perfect, God's Gift are all standouts. It could been a bit better but it was far from being garbage.
