Lil Wayne hasn’t heard ‘Watch the Throne’
by Petar Kujundzic / Interviews / October 28, 2011 / 5328 Views

More honors for Lil Wayne as he covers the October / November issue of VIBE. In the accompanying interview, Weezy delves into several subjects like Nicki Minaj and Drake, his relationship with the media, and admits a quite interesting fact about Watch the Throne. Read some excerpts below.

On Watch The Throne:
“I haven’t heard the album. I’ll probably never hear the album.”

On Nicki Minaj:
“I’m not satisfied with anything she’s done. I believe she can do a whole lot more, and I believe she will do a whole lot more. It’s not shocking, and it’s not surprising. It’s quite fitting. But other than that, it’s nowhere near the end.”

On Drake:
“That’s my artist. He is not [just] a friend. We’re more than friends. It’s business. It would be impossible for it to be a competition. I mean, I’m the guy’s boss.”

On dealing with the tabloids:
“You don’t deal with it. You deal with life. You deal with what’s really going on and what’s really real—that’s your four kids, that’s your mother, that’s your family, that’s the people around you. You don’t deal with what people are saying.”

Who cares that he hasn't... He probably hasn't heard a lot of recent chit. Which may point to the reason why he hasn't gotten the memo that lyricism is back...

He's had nothing for the public since Carter II, and half of Carter III

Oh cmon Wayne, u gay? Who told you to do a cover like that?

hahaha not a competition, thats the truth but you being the guys boss isnt why, hes blowing your shit out the water, not listening to watch the throne thats Odd future ignorant, dont act like nicki doesnt do anyhting good enough.

if you stack up G.O.O.D. music and roc nation vs. YMCMB you square off a bunch of artists bringing the game back to what it should be, and then all the artists who are ruining it.  who cares what the fuck this guy has to say anymore?

This guy should take a listen.
Im not saying that WTT was anything amazing, but I'd support it before TC4.

Difference between the two is that TC4 had mass appeal, and WTT had a target market. When Ye and Jay try to appeal to the 14 year old girls, great sales happen as well. Look at Katie Perrys remix of E.T.

Im annoyed that this guy thinks he is on top for any real reason.

Agree and moreover WTT wasn't so much about the music itself as it was about cementing Jay-Z's legacy in Hip Hop and reviving Kanye's appeal after a string of more "creative" projects that may have been less 'interesting' or 'commercial' than many listeners may have wanted. Love it or hate it, TC4 printed money and that's what Lil Wayne is after, he's not a common or talib, he's an artist who's branded himself to make as much money as possible, regardless of the lyrics...
I'd like to see more artists that have been in the game (say 4/5 albums deep) and try to look back at their careers and try to go back and recreate what made them so good in the first place.  Easier said than done. Here's an interesting article/point of view that speaks about WTT and in comparison to the US as it moves through turbulent times... http://lynch.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/08/27/jay_zs_hegemony_in_the_age_of_kanye

Wayne admitted way back that he doesn't really listen to rap...WTT was a great moment in hip hop but wayne is orchestrating a powerhouse and writing history, certain things only serve as distractions!
