Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV’ could debut at No. 1 with 700,000 copies sold
by Petar Kujundzic / News / August 29, 2011 / 4050 Views

According to Billboard, Lil Wayne's just-released Tha Carter IV album could achieve the second biggest sales week of the year. Industry forecasters suggest it may sell 700,000-850,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on next Sunday, September 4. If this is the case, the LP will mark the second largest frame of any album this year, behind Lady Gaga's Born This Way that debuted with 1.11 million copies sold.

Tha Carter IV was released at 12 a.m. this morning, August 29, following Lil Wayne's closing performance at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Share your thoughts below!

At times sales mean something, but in this case they just mean 700,000 people bought a lackluster album.

not sure if you're trollin or bein serious. but if you are serious, then here is the reason. Production wise there is no comparison WTT beats it even though it was really a rushed album that didn't garner enough attention from the two. Even lyrically it trumps wayne. Wayne is primarily a punchline rapper that strings together similes and hashtag raps to make rhyming words

Yea, because I cant see how this album doing Carter 3 numbers with nothing near the buzz of Carter 3. This album didn't even have Watch The Throne flavor and that album did less than 500k the first week. Something doesn't smell right.

I believe both of those statements are up for debate...The WTT beats were good overall...but you also had songs like lift off which could have been better given the people on the song...Lyrically im not sure I got it this way Lil Wayne> Jay-Z but Kayne = Lil Wayne. Jay-Z didnt rap as good as Kanye on WTT but neither on of them absolutely killed it

fair enough. Comes down to personal preference I guess. I do agree that overall the album felt like it was a half-hearted effort as is wayne's effort compared to some of his earlierwork. I still feel WTT is stronger, but to each their own.

I don't agree that its a masterpiece,  there are certain tracks that show promise, but basically when it boils down to it,  the favorite tracks don't even have Lil Wayne(or very little input) in them.

And the songs that do have his presence are either auto tuned too much, or the lyrics just seem like a complete difference from his past. Not that its bad, but just overhyped.

I applaud him on trying to change things up a little bit, mixing genres and just reinventing himself, but doing it too much sacrifices the authenticity.

Carter 3 is leagues above this offering, but Ill still listen to like 6 of the 18 off of it.

I don't know how you can make a prediction like that off of one day sales. Since he released at midnight that was his BIG DAY, and everyday after the the sales are gonna be falling off. I just can't see 700k happening.

HATERS... WATCH THE THRONE AND CARTER 4 ARE GOOD. SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY !!! 2 DIF TYPES OF HIP HOP.

  • niggatello

its sad that the world is coming down to this, glorifying some idiot who thinks he can rap and consider himself the greatest rapper alive. This dude is at the bottom of the list with rappers as simple as Drake, whos on his label, being better rappers than him. Carter IV=Garbage....better yet, Lil Wayne=Garbage
