By Petar Kujundzic / Tracks / June 16, 2011 / 8863 Views

The wait is over. J. Cole drops his previously announced new single, "Work Out," on the one-year anniversary of his breakthrough mixtape The Warm Up. Cole sample's Kanye West’s “New Workout Plan” on this tuneful track while all writers and publishers of the original track seem to have given the green light. "Work Out" is likely to keep the anticipation growing for his upcoming debut LP which is said to be almost done. Listen below and let us know how you like the cut.

the sample is crazy, but kind of underwhelmed. Maybe I need to listen to it more for it to grow on me. Anyways, hopefully this blows up on the radio so more people know about Cole.

Mr Cole would have to produce some whack ass shit to be played on the radio breh. If anything he should stay the fuck away from radio keep doing what he does best, R.A.P. (rhythm and poetry).

    Paula Abdul??!...Nooooooo!!!

I like it, and I think it works. He's not going straight pop but its clear hes trying to appeal to some other mother fuckers who don't know about it. Nah Rights commenters are going crazy over this right but I honestly think this could be the one single to do it for him. He needs another follow-up song and then like 2-3 real fucking records for his fans to make this album work.

A nigga gotta get that radio money too. Hes payed his "rhythm and poetry" dues. Hes got classic mixtapes. Hes still the man.

Wheres the dislike button? Honestly this is just wack for J.Cole I understand the need to make money but he's got the perfect example in Jay on how to make a radioworthy track with heavy rhymes. I.E. 99 problems

  • Ephram Herman

What is this Hot Ass Shit!!..he better reload I'd rather listen to Lil Wayne try his damnedest at singing than this attempt at a Hit record...fuck outta here!...Boooo

  • Supsup

NOT TOO MANY HATERS...BUT STILL WAY TOO MANY HATERS... J.COLE GAVE US CLASSIC MIX TAPES WAY BETTER THAN NIGGAS ALBUMS i.e. DRAKE / FABULOUS / WALE / 50 cent/ RICK ROSS ....STOP PLAYING THE "HE TURNED COMMERCIAL/ RADIO CARD" this is what he need a fun hip hop track to lure people in to his deep detailed lyrical side that he displayed on mix tapes... no radio spins equals no sales, no sales means, no record deal, no record deal your a  KRS-One! a rapper with skills but horrible track record... J.COLE with JAY-Z what the fuck you think would happen...you think JAY-Z didn't learn from Memphis Bleek/ Beans, Young Guns & Freeway horrible success span on record/radio non of them ever went platinum... forgotten

It's not fresh and irreverent, qualities we admire in J. Cole. It's recycled and irrelevant.

  • Bean Flicker

He payed his dues? wtf does that mean? so is he supposed to just stop what he does best and produce mediocre shit for money? Lol, thats what i fucking hate about this industry, its not even about art anymore.

  • Faded

Who samples Kanye West?!? thats like when your momma sampled Tegan & Sara

" u gotta play the game in order to change the game"...thats all he is doin. obviously lyricswise thats not the shit from him we're used to....but that track will get alot of airplay and eventually reach a lot of new people. they'll start diggin his previous stuff and the "change-the-game-process" slowly starts :) . he will change the game...he will bring real shit back to the mainstream....all we need is patience!

you people are funny. Please get off the bandwagon now.

    COLE WORLD NO BLANKET.

  • Jahah

Maybe J.Cole and his team think this is the record that will catapult him and his career into commercial success. Label politics probably have him making records of this nature. This particular song isn't the one for my ears but I still have faith that J. Cole will deliver some fuego. Time will tell.

  • Jahah

It's not horrible...it's just not what we have become accustom to when listening to J. Cole. I still have believe the fella can pull this off with some heat to back it up. If not, o'well...move on. We still have plenty of his mix-tapes we can rock to.

  • AmazinKazin

his album will go fuckin platinum so he doesnt care bout radio

Is anybody gonna mention this SAMPLE?!

  • ErrelavantHeroe

Idk why ppl are saying that he went commercial. To be a captain to lead any team, you have to build trust with a track record. For him to get a diverse fan base, he has to start with what ppl will listen to. Look at Wale or Wiz. Nobody starting listening to him truthfully until after No Hands and Black Yellow. The tracks are so commercial but it got them a more popular fan base.
